5 Things I've Learned From Blair Waldorf

And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell. Okay so you probably know who I am, but I've watched Gossip Girl at least 8 times all the way through and multiple different episodes more than that, and one character I always adored...Queen B. While she may seem like your average spoiled socialite, there is so much more to her character, which develops with every season. The entire show made me wish I was part of Manhatten's Elite...instead I was stuck at a slightly above average secondary school in England. I always thought Blair Waldorf was my spirit animal and even now I catch myself thing "What would Blair do?". Warning may contain spoilers
1. love deeply
Throughout the show Blair had her fair share of lovers - but she loved them all deeply...particularly a certain Bass. I always looked up to the fact that no matter how badly she had been hurt she picked herself up, and found a new piece of arm candy. This is something I had to do during my breakup towards the end of 2018, I was devastated but I managed to pick myself up and now I'm blossoming every single day...but just like Blair, I'll always love my ex. While Blair does always love deeply, she never settles for anything less than she deserves and as she tells Serena "you deserve a guy that would move mountains"...safe to say her expectations are high. It isn't just prospective suitors she loves deeply though, she loves her friends and family and is fiercely loyal to the both...most of the time.

2. Shopping helps everything
Okay so it doesn't quite help but in a lot of cases shopping does make you feel better. Obviously don't put yourself into debt...go shopping if you can afford to go shopping. There's nothing more satisfying though than getting home after a successful shopping trip and hanging up your new clothes, playing with new makeup or even just popping on a new set of bed sheets. Maybe you're someone that loves a good food shop and treat yourself to a fresh cream cake to tuck into with a cuppa? No matter what you're shopping for, you should always pick up something that makes you happy.
I learned from Blair that after a long day of working (or in her case scheming) there's nothing like a good mooch around the shops to unwind...or a quick scroll through the ASOS new in page. I must blame 80% of my shopping addiction on this show...it just made me obsessed with fashion and learned about the big names at a reasonably young age. I'm still yet to really splurge on a high end designer item...I'm waiting for the perfect one.
3. Women can be sexual too
Blair may not be able to control all aspects of her life...but she can certainly control her sex life. She openly acknowledges her sexual desires and does not hold back from taking control of them. She is a great role model for proving you can be both sexual and respected.
Even though you shouldn't be shamed for being sexual in the first place . We see her explore role play with Chuck, and enjoy the ruffling of her gorgeous satin bed sheets...I don't know how she hides any stains on those.
4. Being feminine doesn't make you weak
Far too often I see 'feminists' making out that loving makeup, dresses and accessories makes you superficial and weak. Blair however is both feminine and a feminist, strutting around in her Loubotins, but is also strong, ambitious and force of nature to be reckoned with. I like to think I'm pretty similar, I love having my hair and nails done, my makeup looking flawless and wearing cute dresses (I tend to only wear heels for special occasions)...however none of this makes me any less ambitious or strong, or even worthy of respect. If anything you should respect that it took be 3 hours to get ready before leaving the house this morning because my eye liner just wouldn't go right!
5. Always have fun!
Whether it was breaking into her school's pool, crashing a party, a shopping trip, a sleepover or just watching an Audrey Hepburn film...Blair always looked like she was having fun. . Life is too short to constantly be worrying, and cancelling plans because you can't be bothered. Of course there are going to be times when you need to cancel plans, but you'll always remember the nights when you just had fun.
