“If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack” -Coco Chanel
I’m an absolute lipstick junkie and MAC lipsticks are some of my all time favourites to use, I love the formula of their matte shades and these are what I tend to purchase more. While I only currently have a small collection, the shades that I do own, I reach for often. I switch between buying my lipsticks from official MAC stores, or an outlet shop called The Cosmetic Company…as everyone likes a discount if you can get one. Fun fact my first MAC lipstick was purchased from The Cosmetic Company, and since then I’ve been addicted.
While there are many other brands that create amazing lipsticks such as Urban Decay, Charlotte Tilbury, Revlon, Rimmel and Kat Von D…there is just something about MAC lipsticks that I hold close to my heart…although it is annoying that they do keep increasing their price of the lipsticks and they’re slowly getting more towards the higher end range of lipsticks. Although I don’t think I’ll stop purchasing them though. My collection consists of mostly matte lipsticks although I do have a couple of different formulas as well I do seem drawn to their matte shades as I don’t find them as drying as other brands and I find they last really well and if they do wear off the do so in a very even way.
Velvet Teddy – £16.50
This is hands down my favourite M.A.C lipstick that I own if I don’t know what lipstick to wear I will always reach for this one. I picked it up not long after the massive hype that Kylie Jenner created around this shade. It seems that whenever I wear this lipstick I always get a lot of compliments on how nice it looks and how much it suits me. Velvet Teddy is a pinky mauve shade, with a greyish undertone (or at least it does on me) and is a matte finish. I will need to repurchase this lipstick soon as I’ve nearly finished the whole tube up!
So Chaud – £16.50
I feel like this shade is extremely underrated and overshadowed by Ruby Woo and Russian Red, however, this is my all time favourite red lipstick. If you ever see me wearing a red lip it will always be this lipstick, it’s the perfect shade for my skin, when I have a tan and when I’m pale. It has a blue undertone which helps to make my teeth a lot whiter (who doesn’t love that added bonus). Like other popular red shades from MAC, this is a matte finish, but it is extremely comfortable and I have no issues with it drying my lips out or creating a ‘butthole’ lip effect.
Fusion Pink – £16.50
I picked this lipstick up on a whim and I actually quite like it, while I don’t reach for it that often it is a beautiful shade. It’s an amplified finish, which is more nourishing than a matte finish, however, I do find that this particular shade does like to move its way around my face, and I’ll often end up with it on my chin…how I manage that I don’t know. It’s a blue toned pink, so it makes your teeth look whiter but is a bit more subtle than a bright red lip.
Please Me – £16.50
Please me is a shade I kind of regret buying, I was going through a phase where I loved wearing a barbie pink lipstick, and like most of the shades on this list, it has a blue undertone. It is was too light for me now though and I don’t reach for it very often unless I was a very pink innocent look, although if you love pink lipsticks it would be worth you picking this one up. Unlike my other matte lipsticks, this one is extremely drying and sinks into all the lines on my lips which means I always need to top it with a gloss…reducing the wear time of this product.
Men Love Mystery – £16.50
Probably the most adventurous shade in my collection, I instantly fell in love with this lipstick when I saw it and I tend to wear it in the summer months. Surprise, surprise it is also blue undertoned with a matte finish but like Velvet Teddy, it is very comfortable and nice to wear. I tend to rock this shade when I’m having a no makeup day, as it makes me feel slightly put together without having to worry about applying a full face of makeup.
House Wine – discountinued
I’m absolutely gutted that this shade has been discontinued, it was the first ever M.A.C lipstick I bought so I have a lot of attachment to it. For me, this is one of my perfect Autumn/Winter shades. It’s a plummy red and just reminds me of autumn leaves. It’s a lustre finish and just feels so comfortable and moisturising on my lips…which is very much needed as the weather gets colder and my lips take a pounding from the cold weather.
What is your all time favourite MAC lipstick, and are there any that you’re dying to get your hands on?
Love you lots like jelly tots x
