    INTROVERT: A SHY, RETICENT PERSON

If you ever meet me at an event you’ll probably be thinking I’m extremely confident and outgoing, when in reality I’m quite a shy person and I keep to myself more often than not. While I have come out of my shell a lot more in the nearly 2 years that I have been blogging, I’m still very much an introvert. I love nothing more than curling up in bed with a good book, TV show or watching some of my favourite films on Blu Ray* and not moving for hours, and while yes I do like to go out and have a few cocktails or a boogie on the dancefloor, it’s only with a specific group of friends that I feel most comfortable doing this.

If you’ve read my March Monthly Roundup you probably watched Debra’s vlog from the Makeup Revolution Party where I went on stage and did the splits, but for me this had nothing to do with being an introvert or an extrovert, this was about having fun and enjoying myself. I’m a dancer, being on stage doesn’t bother me in the slightest. While I might no longer be pursuing a dance career (post on the reasons why coming later in the year) it doesn’t mean I don’t feel at home while performing.

I grew up performing in holiday clubs during all the school holidays, and while I may not have started dance classes till I was 16, I’ve always been involved with musical theatre. I’m not the most amazing singer, but I can hold a tune, and I’m not an Oscar-winning actress…but I’ve always been a performer. Therefore when I’m at an event I almost put on a character that is me, except I’m confident and outgoing.

Being a blogger means I have to manage my time perfectly, rip myself to pieces and build myself up. Honestly, I’m so super harsh on myself, let’s just say I shot these photos twice because I HATED how they turned out the first time, and I’ve had this post lingering in my drafts for a while now. I’m finally biting the bullet and hitting publish. Plus I couldn’t resist showing off this super sassy Sofia Black Floral Print Surplice Romper from Tobi.

When it comes to social media I can be known to share quite a bit of my life, but I’m also extremely careful about just what parts of my life I share. Sure I blog about sex, life and what not but you never really know what’s going on in my life. I’ll typically only talk about things that have happened rather than are happening. This means I can keep some sort of privacy to my life while being ‘relatable’…I hate that word and how much emphasis is placed upon it in the blogging industry.

Now I absolutely adore attending events, it’s one of my favourite things I get out of blogging. Getting to meet new people and just have a laugh, while still working. In 2017 I started going to quite a few events and while I didn’t blog or vlog every single one I attended I often post snaps from my Instagram and it’s often a nice little memory to look back on. I think because I’ve never had a truly bad experience at an event (there was one that I turned up and knew nobody and nobody wanted to talk to me, so I went and got food instead) but other than that I’ve always managed to find people to chat to and hang out with. Like I said earlier, at events I put on a more confident persona of myself and it seems to work every time. There have been events that I haven’t made it to because of anxiety or just because I’m not in the mood to go and while I often end up with FOMO when I see other people at that event on Instastories and other social media, I always feel better overall that I’ve sat one out and spent some time by myself.

I’m a third-year dance student which means quite a lot of my time is taken up with dissertation and essay writing, although I am starting to make more of an effort towards making plans with friends outside of university life. I do spend pretty much every weekend with Sam, so I do have at least a couple of days of interaction with people outside of my course, but nowhere near as much as I did in the first year. I have quite a small friendship group as it is which means my life is literally the “when all two of your friends are busy” meme but I do have friends all of the country, but I obviously don’t get to see them anywhere near as often as I would like.

Growing up I wasn’t too much of an introvert but as the years have gone on I’ve just very much learnt to enjoy my own company, and become extremely independent…possibly too much so. I’m quite happy with how I am as a person though and I like to think I’ve found a balance between being social and having time to myself, although I’m sure some people will disagree, but being around people can just be so draining especially if there’s alcohol involved.

Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert?

Love you lots like jelly tots x
