5 Christmas Makeup Essentials

Tis the season to sparkle

Since I’ve been kinda crappy at posting on my blog this month, I’ve decided to do 5 posts in 5 days…all Christmas related…think of it as the supermini blogmas, plus I’ve always liked the last 5 days of ‘On the first day of Christmas’ song. So kicking off these 5 days I’m going to share with you 5 Christmas makeup essentials…now in reality I’m back home at my Mum’s for the holidays so I didn’t pack a lot of makeup to bring with me…so this is basically going to be 5 holy grail products (plus one brand new one I bought myself as an early Christmas present).

So while I haven’t been to a crazy amount of Christmas parties, I do still love to play around with my makeup and create looks that I might just get to actually wear to a party at some point although it’s only 5 days until the big day…so not very likely. That doesn’t mean I don’t need to have several makeup products that I can count on to create a look that is going to last through a day of Christmas present delivery…or last minute shopping. Although I think I have everyone’s presents already.

When you know you’re going to be dancing the night away, or spending the day visiting different friends and family members you know you want your makeup to last. Everyone just seems to be extra snap happy at this time of the year, and you know for a fact all of those photos are going to end up on Facebook for the world to see. While I have multiple different foundations I reach for, depending on my mood a key staple for me is the MAC Studio Fix Fluid. It’s never let me down yet touch wood, and while it does obviously wear as the day goes on…I don’t find myself hating how my skin looks at the end of the day. I even have it in a couple of different shades so I’m prepared all year round. Even if it is annoying that you have to buy the pump separately just to be able to use the foundation…sort it out MAC.

A few months ago I did a post Creating The Perfect Base With Rimmel where I fell in love with the Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer* and I’m still loving it. It’s the perfect high coverage concealer that doesn’t oxidize or crease quickly. While I went through a phase of not reaching for it regularly, those days are over and it has taken over the spot of the cult classic Collection Lasting Perfection. I found that the Collection concealer was just too thick and cakey look on my skin as well as highlighting my dry skin…something I don’t want at all! I mean it was inevitable that my skin was going to get used to the concealer after using it for 5+ years…always good for a change. It was also quite pink toned and skin the main area I use concealer is under my eyes, it’s kind of useful if I have one that’s more yellow than pink…cause I’m super lazy and hate colour correcting.

I’ve always been a lover of eyeshadows right back to my days of bright blue shadow up to my eyebrows and I love to play around with new colours…so when I saw the Urban Decay Ultimate Basics on sale I couldn’t help but treat myself as a Christmas present to myself. I’ve been after this palette for quite some time now, and I’m so super happy to get my hands on it…the perfect addition to my makeup collection. I always find myself short of matte shades that I use as transition shades, and this palette truly delivers. Plus it’s not massive so I don’t mind traveling with it too much since it’s smaller than my MAC Warm Neturals which is always in my makeup bag.

So a bit of a funny story about how I came to process the L’oreal Baby Roll Mascara…basically I was heading to an event and had put falsies on…but really badly. So when I did a rather violent sneeze one came flying off and I couldn’t find it on the train floor. Cue me running into Boots like a headless chicken because I knew I wouldn’t be able to apply another pair on the train, nor did I have a favourite mascara I could rely on. So I picked this one up on a whim after seeing multiple bloggers raving about it…and holy crap I’ve not looked back. This is my second tube and soon I’ll be picking up my third because it literally gives a falsie effect without any stupid fibers needed.

What’s the Christmas period without a red lip? While I’ve been more a fan of matte lips in recent years, Tanya Burr’s glosses are something I adore. They’re not sticky in the slightest and for a gloss, they’re incredibly pigmented. I think that I prefer a glossy lip in the winter since it’s already freezing outside and my lips don’t need any more reason to become all dry, cracked and gross. This particularly red gloss is from the 12 Sweet Days Beauty Calendar (something I treated myself to for finishing my essay 4 weeks before the deadline). It’s in the shade ‘Berry Fudge’ and while it’s not a true red…it still looks absolutely stunning on the lips.

Unfortunately, I do think it’s exclusive to the advent calendar which is currently £8 in Superdrug but I’m sure you could find a pretty similar colour from another brand. I know I only typically buy Tanya Burr Cosmetics during Christmas…I just can’t resist the adorable packaging everything has.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this first of 5 Christmas themed posts, while I’m not super in the festive spirit just yet…I’m sure it’ll kick in during the next few days and I’ll be super excited. I’ve got some great plans for Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years and I honestly cannot wait to create new memories with each day around the people I love most.

Are any of these your go-to makeup product?

Love you lots like jelly tots x
