I’ve fallen in love. Well in love with smock dresses, all thanks to this striped number I picked up from Primark for £13. Since picking this one up I’ve been desperate to pick others up, they’re lightweight, comfortable and easy to style. This style of dress is absolutely brilliant for those of us that can’t always be asked to match a bottom and top together or deal with having to completely strip off to use the bathroom. Instead, you can literally throw on a smock dress, a pair of flip flops, trainers or just about any style of shoes, and be good to go. A couple of summers ago I was obsessed with skater dresses, and I remember how easy they made my life…now I think I’ve switched to smock dresses because I can eat as much pizza I like and nobody would ever know. I also don’t have to worry too much about this skirt of this dress blowing up since it tends to poof up but not completely blow up. Or at least I haven’t accidentally flashed anyone while wearing a smock dress.
While I tend to spend the rest of the year in black high waisted jeans, as the warmer weather rolls around I find myself branching out on the colours and style of the pieces I wear…mostly because I know I’ll melt if I wear all black. Smock dresses are also a great piece to take on holiday as you can quite easily throw them on over swimwear and be suitable to eat in a restaurant, or pop down to the beach without feeling self-conscious in a bikini cover up. Let’s not forget the fact that smock dresses will fit well on just about any body shape since they have little to no shape to them in the first place so they can hide a majority of things you don’t like about your body, while still allowing you to look absolutely adorable and carefree. Plus keeping you cool in the boiling heat…especially if you wear one made out of cotton or thin jersey. The shoes I have paired with this dress are many years old and they’re just brown faux leather loafers from River Island, I’m wearing my Pandora bracelet and rings as well as my dainty bird necklace from Topshop.
